"Doughnuts With Doheny" Off To Sweet Start; More Dates Announced
WATERTOWN – Matt Doheny is learning that the quickest way to a voter’s heart is sometimes through their stomach.
The Republican congressional candidate is hosting informal town halls over doughnuts and coffee on Saturday mornings across the 23rd Congressional District. The first two forums were a smashing success, with about 100 residents from in and around Madison and Oswego counties coming to have their voices heard on the issues that matter most.
“It’s great to hear from so many people who share my concerns about the direction of our country,” said Doheny. “In our conversation, I’m offering them a different direction than the course President Obama and our current congressman, Bill Owens, have laid out. My path does not shy away from our challenges with debt and growth – and it includes a roadmap to put this country back on track to economic prosperity.”
Doheny’s supporters aren’t the only people taking notice of the candidate’s pro-growth message. Even though there are almost 300 days until Election Day, the Democrat Party has sent a spy to listen to the Republican candidate and film his speeches.
“Frankly, I’m not surprised the Democrats have sent someone to track my movements,” the candidate said. “They are understandably nervous that people identify with my plan to bring my business expertise and common sense principles to Washington. They also know I am the only candidate who can unite the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties and unseat the incumbent.”
The “Doughnuts” tour continues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cape Vincent Recreation Center, 602 S. James St., Cape Vincent. Complimentary doughnuts, coffee and water – for all attendees, even trackers – will be provided. Stops will also be held at these locations:
- 9 a.m. Feb. 11: Canton Town Hall, 60 Main St.
- 9 a.m. Feb. 18: Saranac Lake Adult Center, 135 Broadway St.
- 9 a.m. Feb. 25: St. Augustine’s Parish Center, 3030 Main St., Peru.
Doheny intends to hold at least one “Doughnuts” event in each of the counties that make up the 23rd District. Successive stops will be announced at a later date.
